3.4.2. IRC Channels As An Organizational Gathering and Collaboration Medium

Besides being used for academic related discussion room, an IRC Channel can also be used for the benefits of organizations in UTP. Associations, clubs, and student bodies can use the channel as an interaction medium between their members and other students. They can also use it as a meeting room for their events and projects. Below are the possibe use-cases:

Alif is a member of ICCUTP. He wanted to voice out his ideas for an event of ICCUTP. He joined #iccutp channel and voiced out his ideas there. Those who are within the channel may debate on his ideas. If it is good, they can use it, if its not, they will just reject it. Nonetheless, the idea reached its intended audience rather than being hidden and not surfaced.

Syntech wanted to plan a future activity but it need more input from its members. A notice is sent out to the members who are interested to be give input in the #syntech channel. The input can be gathered and perhaps also be debated openly within the channel.

EDX committee suddenly faced something which need urgent attention from its members and participants. One of the EDX committee quickly announce it to the channel to get some attention from the other members. Those who are online during that time will be able to ask more details and respond to the announcement. Those who are within the channel but away from the computer can read whatever have been discussed in the channel through the channel logs.
