One of the most prevalent utilization of IRC is as a medium for people from all over the world collaborate for a particular project. This is greatly demonstrated by the abundant of Open Source software projects from all over the world. The best example of an IRC network which is utilized as a project collaboration medium is Freenode.net. A number of Open Source software project uses the infrastructure provided by Freenode to create a public channel where their users and developers from all over the world can communicate and collaborate together. They also uses several other infrastructures for helping the collaboration which I will cover on another chapter. Below are some use-cases.
